    If electricity usage exceeds solar power production, the additional power is drawn from the gridโ€”this is called "import." Conversely, if solar production exceeds usage, the excess power is sent back to the gridโ€”this is called "export."

    During maintenance work, utility workers may disconnect power lines for safety. If solar-generated electricity were to flow back into the grid at that time, it could pose a serious risk to them. To prevent this, on-grid solar systems automatically shut down during a power outage. This safety mechanism is known as "anti-islanding protection."

    If backup power is required during outages, users can choose from alternatives like a regular inverter, an off-grid solar system, a hybrid solar system, or a generator, depending on their budget. For most households, an inverter with UPS support is a cost-effective and reliable option when used alongside an on-grid system.

    Can you explain the costs and procedures related to installing an on-grid solar plant with MNRE/KSEB?

    Step 1

    Register on the PM Surya Ghar portal.

    Step 2

    Submit the feasibility application (โ‚น1,000 + GST) to the nearest KSEB section office (AE). A response is usually received within 3 to 15 days.

    Step 3

    Pay the registration fee for solar installation at the KSEB section office (โ‚น1,000 + GST per kilowatt). For example, if you plan to install a 3 kW system, the fee will be โ‚น3,000 + GST.

    Step 4

    Complete the construction of the solar plant through your chosen installation company.

    Step 5

    Submit all equipment certificates, a โ‚น200 stamp paper agreement between KSEB and the consumer for net metering, and other required documents to the KSEB office.

    Step 6

    KSEB/MNRE officials will conduct an inspection to verify the quality and operational efficiency of the plant.

    Step 7

    If you are installing the system under a subsidy scheme, the installation company must submit the required documents to the respective portal, and the consumer should verify them. Choosing a reliable and experienced company is crucial at this stage.

    Step 8

    If your solar power plant is registered under the PM Surya Ghar subsidy scheme, the central government will transfer the subsidy amount directly to your bank account within approximately 1 to 3 months.

    Lisie Hospital, Cochin - 1 MWp

    We were first awarded the phase 1 of 250 kWp project. With satisfaction with our products, subsequently, we were given repeat orders of 350 kWp in phase 2 and 400 kWp in phase 3. The project constituted of more than 3600 highest quality solar panels of SolarWorld, Germany installed over the hospital rooftop. The inverters used in the project are of the leading German Inverter brand called SMA.

    MVR Hospital, Calicut - 1 MWp

    We were first awarded the phase 1 of 300 kWp project for product supply. Due to satisfaction with our products, subsequently, we were given repeat orders of 700 kWp in phase 2. More than 3000 highest quality solar panels of SolarWorld, Germany were supplied and subsequently installed over the hospital. The inverters used in the project are of the leading German brand called SMA.

    Amala Hospital, Thrissur - 605 kWp

    Amala Hospital realised its need to switch to more self reliant and greener energy, and chose Moopens Energy for the same. The 1st phase of 40 kWp Ongrid Solar was completed on time and satisfied with our performance, repeat orders of 215 kWp and 350 kWp followed, thus totalling 605 KWp. 3600 high quality solar panels of SolarWorld, Germany, and leading German brand SMA inverters were used.

    Bismi Hypermart, Palakkad & Muvattupuzha - 370 kWp

    Ajmal Bismi Hypermarts in partnership with Sunsenz Solar by Moopens Energy set up two rooftop solar energy power plants in two of their locations. First one was in Palakkad, of 180 kWp and subsequently due to the success of the first project, a 200 kWp project was executed in Muvattupuzha, thus totalling 370 kWp. High Quality SolarWorld Solar Panels, Germany and SMA Solar Inverters were used.

    Korambayil Hospital, Malappuram - 162 kWp

    The leading hospital along with Sunsenz by Moopens Energy joined forces to construct a rooftop solar power plant installation in Manjeri within the hospital premises as part of venturing into greener technologies for a greener future. The project constituted of more than 648 highest quality solar panels of Jinko solar installed. SMA brand Solar inverters from Germany were used in this project.

    Mother Hospital, Thrissur - 100 kWp

    Mother Hospital was one of the first to think about ongrid solar energy on a commercial scale in Kerala. Mother Hospital achieved this with a solar power plant of 100 kWp in 2013 to meet a portion of their energy demands. German brand SMA Inverters and 400 highest quality solar panels using Bosch Solar Cells were used in this project. Mother Hospital already got their payback for this investment a few years back.
